One of my main goals in visiting the Khutzeymateen was simple yet daunting: to capture a moment that revealed just how extraordinary this coastline truly is. The inlet is lined with pockets of emerald vegetation—hidden worlds of moss, sedge, and ancient lichen—and each day I found myself returning to one particular patch that stood out like a miniature rainforest of its own. I imagined what it might look like if a coastal grizzly stepped into that scene, framed by the lushness that defines the Great Bear Rainforest. On the final day, that hope materialized. A coastal grizzly bear rose onto its hind legs and began feeding on fresh sedge grass directly in front of the very spot I had been watching.
