Frozen at the apex of its leap, a red fox hangs weightless above the sagebrush flats. For a fleeting moment, the laws of gravity seem suspended as the fox arches through the air in pursuit of a meal hidden below.
 
This remarkable hunting behavior, known as mousing, relies on far more than speed and agility. Much of the fox's success comes from its ability to detect faint sounds and subtle movements beneath the vegetation. After pinpointing its target, the fox launches into a precise aerial strike, often committing fully before ever seeing its prey.
